Tucci’s Southside Subs: A South Austin Sub That Gets It Right

As an Italian-American from Chicago, I don’t throw around deli sub compliments lightly. If there’s one thing I’m qualified to critique, it’s a sandwich. And let me just say, Tucci’s Southside Subs is a home run.

Started by David Tucci, a Pennsylvania transplant with legit East Coast roots, this place is all about doing things the right way. Boar’s Head meats. Fresh-sliced ingredients. Hoagie rolls custom-made by New World Bakery. You can taste the care in every bite.

I always go for the Tucci’s Turkey, which is stacked just right, plenty of meat, fresh veg, not drenched in oil, and wrapped in that warm, soft roll with just the right chew. Simple, classic, and done right.

But let me put you onto something: if they’ve got the roasted red pepper soup, get it. No questions. No excuses. Dip that sandwich into the soup and thank me later. It’s one of those pairings that hits on a soul level.

Tucci’s isn’t trying to be trendy, it’s just real food made by real people who know what a good sub should taste like. That’s rare, and in South Austin, it’s gold.
